the poetry

the choice.

thirteen years

you’ve been gone from this plane, from this place, from me

if only I had known that moment would be our last, I would have chosen you

my guardian angel

even when you were here you looked after me

climbed the trees in the front yard after we played on the swing

eating half of my food instead of making your own

jump rope and bike rides and scary movies at night

sleepovers and video games, always time well spent

you were older and protected me from so many things

boys with bad intentions and ‘friends’ who meant me harm

you were my brother and taught me so much

days spent in the studio singing your choruses and hooks

those will always be my favorite memories with you

you were older and you were my brother, you could have spent time with people your age

but time and time again you chose me

if I had known that moment would be our last, I would have chosen you
