22 things I want to do in 2022

going into this new year, there are so many things I want to do with the next 365 days. the possibilities are endless, but these are the things at the top of my 2022 bucket list:

1. read 6 books

every semester I find it harder and harder to read for leisure. so many of my classes have required weekly readings that I just don’t find the same pleasure I used to in reading for fun. I’ve grown far too attached to my tv for entertainment, so this year I want to get back to my bookish roots and finish at least 6 books within the years time

2. take my kiddos somewhere new

my little humans enjoy road trips and the outdoors as much as I do, in that way (and many others) they 100% my kids. in 2021, visiting our bonus family took us to two new places. this year, I’d to show them a little more of the world and take a couple mini vacations to some place new.

5. find a new trail to hike

maryland is full of scenic hidden gems, and I have enjoyed discovering all the trails close to home where our family can enjoy a hike together. this year, I want to venture out of my comfort zone and find new land to explore.

6. denver,co

in 2016 and 2020, my bestie traveled to maryland to see me for a few days. now that we’ve seen most of what the nearby cities have to offer, it’s time for me to take a trip to the midwest. spend some time in her stomping grounds and get some QT with my godson in his element.

9. finish 5 short stories

towards the end of ’21, I decided I wanted to write a collection of short stories. I jotted down most of the titles and plots and even started writing a few of them. this year, I want to finish some [if not all] of them and submit at least one for feature/publication.

10. de-clutter!

admittedly, I am a teensy bit of a hoarder. do I have a house full of things, no. do I have too many things that I don’t need, absolutely yes. it’s time for a cleanse and a fresh start, so I’ll be periodically donating things to local shelters to help those in need. by the end of 2022, hopefully my mom won’t feel the need to comment on the cleanliness of my home

13. finally go on our first date

when my SO and I met on hinge we both talked a big game about who would beat who in a game of bowling. despite the fact that we’ve been together for almost a year and a half, we’ve managed to do pretty much everything except go bowling. 2022 will be the year we finally go on what should have been our first date and find out who is the superior bowler

14. paint with little A

my little Picassita has been asking me to paint with her for months now, but every time I look at her artwork I feel so small. how does a three year old make me feel so inferior? her abstract art is seriously dope as fuck, but this year I’m going to sit down with my cupcake and paint from the heart just like she does

17. awesome autistics

a few months after I started eclectic, I also started a blog for my son with autism. I started looking for guest writers and when shit hit the fan in life, I stopped posting on it. this year. I want to dedicate more time to his blog. the goal is 24 posts, if we manage to post more, I’ll be even more proud.

18. illustrate TGC installments

my SO and I started working on a joint action-adventure fantasy project that I have thoroughly enjoyed writing. this year, I’d like to find an illustrator to make covers for our installments, which will make their debut on my blog spring ’22.

21. build my brand

whether it be through guest posts, subscriptions, branded products or community outreach – I want to starting building the foundation of my brand. I have an end goal in sight but there are so many steps along the way. the first was starting the blog, now it’s time to show people who I am and what eclectic is all about.

22. be happy : )

2021 was a year of acceptance, healing, and growth. 2022 will be a year of progression, success and consistency. on that’s on periodt!

3. take a BAEcation

my SO is hands down the most family oriented partner I’ve ever been with, but we spend so much time with the little humans we forget to enjoy ourselves as adults. this year, I want to get away for a few days, just him and I, and enjoy each other’s company doing grown up things. as much as we enjoy the company of the little humans, we are overdue for US time.

4. get in *better* shape

in 2021, I saw a huge improvement in my eating and workout habits. the end of the year was rough and I broke a lot of the routines I’d spent the better part of the year building. in 2022, I want to get back on track and lose at least 10 pounds so that I can meet my original weight loss goal for ’21.

7. a n i m e

my SO jokes all the time about he’s bringing ‘culture into my life’ by introducing me to new anime. we started quite a few in 2021, but this year I actually want to finish at least four different anime- the most anticipated being attack on titan

8. grow my blog

2021 was such a great year for my blog, I gained over 1200 followers across all my platforms and met so many amazing creatives. this year, I want to add at least one more weekly feature and double my followers

11. tattoos and piercings

somehow, I made it through all of 2021 without getting a single piercing or tattoo, and honestly, I’m disappointed in myself. this year, I’ll be adding at least one of each to collection of body art. ’22 might be the year I finally start my sleeve, or I lose enough weight to be comfortable tattooing my sternum

12. learn how to play console games

PC games have spoiled to the point where a console controller seems so foreign to me. anytime my SO wants to play a game, I’m usually getting my ass kicked because I can’t get a handle on using an actual controller. this year, I’m going to make it a point to re-learn how to play console games and stop being a button masher

15. read more blog posts

I am the worst at taking the time to read blog posts. there are probably two days out of each month I actually scroll through the reader on WordPress or click the links of my fellow writers on twitter. this year, I’m making it a point to read, comment, and share more. I look forward to your words and your stories

16. become [semi] fluent in a new language

for the last few months, I’ve been taking french lessons on duolingo. at the then end of ’21, I had mastered the first two lessons. by the end of the year, I want to be able to hold a decent conversation in french.

**as of today, I’m on a 46 day streak, let’s see if I can make it through the whole year without breaking it

19. save! save! save!

I am the worst with money, y’all! this year, I’m making a promise to myself that I will set aside money each month and have three figures in my savings account at the end of the year

20. cook more, takeout less

I spent an embarrassing amount of money on delivery and take out last year. in 2022, I’m going to make it a point to cook more at home, learn some new recipes and only eat out on special occasions

at the end of the year, I want to be able to look back at this post and say that I checked off every single one, and then some

love the layout of this post – it was really fun to read. Loved hearing about your 2022 goals. I’ve always wanted to visit Colorado, especially the winter time.

    1. as much as I would love being there in the winter, my first trip will be with my little humans so I really want to take them in the summer time so we can do amusement parks, hike and all the outdoorsy things.

  4. I absolutely love these goals and they have given me some inspiration for my own. I’ve been learning French on Duolingo too! My main goal for 2022 is to get up earlier in the morning because I am more productive that way. I will be checking out your son’s blog as I have friends who are autistic so it’s an important topic for me.

    1. if you ever want someone to talk to in French just to keep the language fresh on your tongue, you know where to find me! I’m naturally an early riser and you’re right, those hours are when the best work gets done. & that blog means a lot to him and I – definitely making it a point to be more active there this year. I’m actually looking for guest writers if you think they’d be interested. since I’m not actually autistic, my insight only goes so far, I’d love to give the blog a firsthand aspect on certain topics

      1. Thank you, I will keep that in mind for my French learning, and likewise let me know if you want to practice your French with me! You’re lucky to be a naturally early riser – I do struggle to get up early but it really pays off when I manage it. I’m not sure if my autistic friends would be up for writing a blog post but I may mention it to them and let you know 🙂
